About Grants  Minimize

Welcome to Northwest New Mexico, one of Americas most fascinating areas.  Grants is a community of 9000 people from many cultures and backgrounds.  Our climate is mild year round, typical of the high desert.  We are located 1 hour west of Albuquerque on I-40.  Our area offers low property taxes, inexpensive housing, the convenience of a nearby large city, and an abundance of open space.  The bottom of this page provides links to local attractions and traveling times.

Attention all Cibola County Residents:

Important events sometimes get scheduled on the same day/night at the same time, forcing people to choose to attend one or the other event.  We are not always informed of important events with enough notice to post them on our calendar.  If an organization knew about the scheduling conflict with enough advance notice, they might choose to reschedule.  We are encouraging the community to call the Chamber of Commerce with their event information so we may keep our new online community calendar current.  Thank you so much and have a great day!

CIBOLA COUNTY - Area residents can now leave their vehicles at home, take advantage of the new transit system and sit back and enjoy the ride. On May 1 the Cibola Area Transit Authority began to accept passengers.
For the month of May the transportation fee has been waived. The Transit Authority is training a fourth driver so, for the first week of this month the length of time the bus will be running has been shortened. Service will begin at 8 a.m. and end at 4:45 p.m.
For now the service is only running its fixed route. The demand responsive route, Route C, has been shortened until another bus driver is hired and trained.
If someone is in need of a bus ride and provides an adequate amount of time for employees to schedule the trip, the system will do its best to accommodate the customer. The radio system, which will be manned out of the Village of Milan Police Department, has not been installed yet. Customers can reach the service by calling 287-9816.
Right now the bus drivers, while running the fixed routes, they are busy keeping records of their times of arrival, departure and number of customers. The Cibola County Transit Authority Board members will review those records at their next regular meeting and make any necessary adjustments to the pick up and drop off locations. The next meeting is scheduled for May 20 at 9:30 a.m. at the Cibola County Complex.
Starting in June it is expected the rate charged per zone traveled will be 50 cents. For example if a passenger rides from the Cibola General Hospital on Roosevelt Avenue to the Fire and Ice Park that would cost 50 cents. If a rider travels from the hospital to a stop in the Village of Milan the rate would be $1. As in any other situation patrons of the service are asked to follow some rules. The transit system has adopted and adheres to a no-seat belt no ride policy. No alcohol and or drugs will be permitted on the buses and potential customers who are intoxicated or under the influence will not be allowed to ride. All of the vehicles are tobacco free. Also, no weapons will be allowed on the buses.
